The Poverty to Progress Wheel
This wheel was developed to show that community needs are multi-sectoral and that empowerment requires an integral design. It helps one to have a holistic view of community development and come up with an integral action plan. It being simple and at the same time comprehensive, has gained considerable acceptance and is used widely by many practitioners. The inner circle shows the issues and the outer shows the needed interventions. A social worker can choose the various components for research in order to develop a design that makes the project holistic. An important observation is that no one person has abilities or skills to intervene in all the sectors, and this makes it mandatory for partnership with those capable in other sectors for a holistic development of the poor communities. This wheel does not show the capitals in community empowerment because the primary focus is to show the components of community empowerment. The spiritual dimension of 'peace' is taken as a component, as it is widely accepted that human have the spiritual dimension that needs to be addressed as well.
